Sampling...

After my Dutch Delight I needed a short walk in order to get to my next port of call, The Coal Orchard, a Wetherspoons pub.  As soon as I got there I made the first mistake of beer sampling and ordered the strongest one that they had on, Ballast Point Calico Amber.  I also went straight for a pint.  A refreshingly good pint for 5.2%ABV, I could quite easily of had a session on this one.  The flavours were a fairly close match to the brewery description so you should know what you’re getting.

Next it was back to sampling proper with half a pint of Wadworths Celebratory Stout.  Two stouts on the same day!  Not only that, but both good easy drinking ones.  This one excelled itself for a real ale stout.  It had a nice tight head more reminiscent of a well known keg stout.  The sugar definitely added to the flavour and depth of this excellent beer.

I then moved on to one that I had been looking forward to, Caledonian Doc Kennedy’s Lipsmacker Lemon Ale.  After studying in Edinburgh for three years I was well acquainted with Caledonian beers and I couldn’t wait to try this one, going straight on to a pint.  To say I was disappointed would be to way overstate the case, but with a name like Lipsmacker Lemon Ale I was expecting more lemon although the description of is correct when it states hints of lemon.  This was a nice refreshing session beer and I would definitely have it again.
Finally I had a Robinsons Ginger Tom, (just a half).  I afraid to say that due to the fact I’m not to keen on ginger that I couldn’t finish this one and had to let my partner Janet have this one, who said “Its nice, but I rather have a Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer”.
It was almost time to leave now and time for a pint to enjoy; the one I went for was a pint of the Ballast Point Calico Amber what a good way to finish a sampling session.
